How Chiropractors Treat and Heal Patients

In order to help our patients and others who would like to know more about chiropractic care, we have put together this informational page.
Musculoskeletal Health Problems
Chiropractors treat patients who are experiencing health problems of the musculoskeletal system. The musculosketal system is what keeps our bodies together; it is bones, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. The types of health problems, injuries and ailments we treat are many and varied and include back pain, hip pain, chronic headaches, neck or shoulder pain and pain and swelling of joints.
While chiropractic adjustments of the joints are commonly associated with this profession, doctors of chiropractic are not just limited to manipulation of the spine.
Chiropractic Treatments
Many evidence-based chiropractic treatments, including but not limited to the use of accupuncture, physiologic therapeutics like ultrasound, electrical nerve stimulation and traction, and the incorporation of exercise, nutrition and postural programs, are part of modern chiropractic care.
We use spinal manipulation and a variety of other techniques to treat our patients’ ailments, such as back or neck pain.
Chiropractors provide patients with musculoskeletal therapy. This therapy involves adjusting a patient’s spinal column and other joints by hand.
Assessments and treatment options Chiropractors provide
All chiropractors should assess a patient’s medical condition by reviewing his or her medical history as well as listening to the patient’s concerns, and performing a physical examination. This is very important. We cannot properly treat our patients until we know exactly what a patients prior medical history is.
Once a chiropractor has gone through a thorough assessment, he or she will then analyze the patient’s posture and spine.
Chiropractic Diagnostics and Evaluation
It is important to note that a chiropractor may also need to perform additional diagnostic tests, including evaluating a patient’s posture or taking x rays. These additional tests will provide helpful information in the formation of an appropriate course of treatment.
- Provide additional treatments, such as applying heat or cold to a patient’s injured areas.
- Advise patients on health and lifestyle issues, such as exercise and sleep habits.
- Focus on patients’ overall health. Many believe that misalignment of the spinal joints interfere with a person’s nervous system and can result in lower resistance to disease and many different conditions of diminished health.
- In addition to operating a general chiropractic practice, some chiropractors specialize in sports injuries, neurology, orthopedics, pediatrics, nutrition, internal disorders, or diagnostic imaging
